First Hike - 5/30/2011

Though I was able to get a few hikes in during the winter, I count this as my first hike of the season.  Colorado has gotten so much snowfall lately that I had to stay down in the foothills.   For that reason, we decided on Mountain Lion Trail in Golden Gate State Park.   There are several wonderful trails there that are perfect for families and dogs.  This trail in particular had plenty of water on it for the boys - Blaze and Rocky.  There are also a lot of ways that you can make this trail an all day event or just a few hours.  Since we all know that I'm the meanderer, I opted for the few hours option.    In those few hours, I was able to enjoy a very diverse terrain from being in open meadows with beautiful views to walking through an aspen forest.  This was a great way to start the season.  However, I have to tell you that I cannot wait to get into the mountains!

About the blog!

I always considered myself an outdoorsy person until I moved to Colorado from Florida via Texas.  I longed to get here to meet women just like myself.  I was all set to kayak, bike and hike.  I set up several outings with coworkers only to learn that I was a couch potato in comparison to them.  A bike date meant 30 miles minimum - uphill.  I just wanted to ride 10 miles and then get a burger and beer.  Roller blading was for the entire day.  Nothing here is flat and kayaking was out when I realized how fast the water flowed here.   We don't even want to go into my attempts at snowboarding. :)  I just gave up trying to find others who were similar to me.   However, recently I fell in love with biking again and discovered blogs on women who bike just like me.  It was so encouraging, I decided to start a blog to be there for other women who like to be active, but aren't trying to win any records.  Here's to the active meanderer!
